"Friends of the Bishops' House" is a Non-Profit organization dedicated to the historical preservation of this grand old building. The Home is located on Old Penitentiary Road and was once home to the Episcopal Bishops of Idaho. The original house was built in the 1880's and was remodeled to its current stately structure in 1899.
The Bishops House is a beautiful towered house built in the Queen Anne style. The house was originally located close to the main Boise proper and had been neglected over the years. The Friends of the Bishops House Non-Profit organization was organized in 1975 thru the interest of a number of local Architects, preservationists and concerned citizens. The Friends of the Bishops House purchased the building, arranged to have it set at the Historical site on the Old Penitentiary grounds, and coordinated moving it to its present location.
Years of fundraising and donated dollars have resulted in the restoration of this beautiful home. In 1977 the Idaho Historic Preservation Council awarded the house the Orchid Award for "Restoration of a Building for Productive Use" and we are committed to uphold this distinction. The building is available to the public for events throughout the year. All dollars generated by these events are put back into the preservation and up keep of the home and the beautiful grounds. By hosting your event with us you can take pride in supporting the preservation of this beautiful stately home and our Idaho history.
